Hello Football Fans!

After a crazy round 1 with many surprises it is time for some analysis. I have grouped my thoughts on the picks made last night. I removed the consideration of how much they paid to move up for a player. This is strictly what I think of the player, how I feel they may contribute, and the overall risk in drafting the player for that specific team. Red players are ones that I think will be busts, Orange are likely busts but may contribute, Yellow are 50/50 players, light green I think will be contributors for their teams but never great, dark green I think will be strong contributors on their teams, Blue are players that I think will be great in the NFL and with their respective teams.

Let's leave some ambiguity here so if you have comments please leave them.

André and Chris 3-round mock draft

After burning the afternoon into the close to midnight oil, André and Chris have completed the 3-round mock draft once again. Per our usual rules, these are the player we would pick and not the players that we think each team will pick but we stuck to the best player for the teams even if they were not our favorites. WE alternated picks with the exception of Chris loving to give André the Packers each time and then Chris took the next two picks.

Enjoy this responsibly!

2017 NFL Draft - Packers and Bears picks for all 7 rounds

We are less than a week out from the NFL Draft! Here are my picks for the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. Why these two teams, well, I do not get paid to do this so I had to narrow it down to the two teams I pay most attention to. As always, these are the players I think they should pick, not who they will pick necessarily. However, there are times when I swear they are reading my blog as I have hit on a few picks in the past.

Enjoy!

Packers Picks

Round 1: Pick 29 (29th overall) – Takarist McKinley OLB UCLA or TJ Watt OLB Wisconsin – In both cases I like the players and their intensity. Watt needs to fill out a bit but Clay Matthews had a pretty similar physic when he was drafted (though Watts legs are skinnier). There is a good chance only one of them is available here so it is an either or situation. If both are, I will take the over that Watt develops into a more consistent player.

Round 2: Pick 29 (61st overall) WR Zay Jones East Carolina – Plain and simple, the Packers do not need a WR, but they always grab one when they do not need one. Zay Jones is the Jordy Nelson of this draft, go back to the Senior Bowl and look at his TD catch that did not count, that would have counted if there were replay. He is more technically sound than you would think. Do not be surprised if he turns out to be one of the top 3 WR in this draft years down the road.
If for some reason Adoreé Jackson is here, he is the much better pick but he may even go in round 1, who knows

Round 3: Pick 29 (93rd overall) – Jourdan Lewis CB Michigan – Lewis’ off the field issues need to be checked out but his lack of size does not concern me one bit, he is feisty and has a short memory and the Packers need to bring in a real CB instead of a projected. If Rollins and Randall get over their sophomore slump the Lewis is just icing on the cake.

Round 4: Pick 28 (134th overall) – Jordan Morgan OG Kutztown or
Erik Magnuson OL (convert to Guard) Michigan – I like Morgan better but I like both players as guards. There is a chance that the Packers are happy with Kyle Murphy and are going to move him to Guard which makes round 4 a good round to find a back-up plan

Round 5: Pick 29 (174th overall) – Connor Harris LB Lindenwood – He has some size limitations as he is a little short but he is quick and has great instincts. Worst case scenario, he is a top special teams player

Round 5*: Pick 39 (184th overall) –  Tarik Cohen RB North Carolina A & T – He is a little guy but he has some interesting skills as a scat back and returner.

Round 6: Pick 29 (214th overall) – Josh Tupou NT Colorado – Tupou is a special 2 down player but he holds a lot of weight very well. He can rotate in and stuff the run on occasion while he develops a bit. With how athletic he is at 350 you have to wonder if he might be a gem if he can drop to the 330 range.

Round 7: Pick 29 (247th overall) –Boise Ross CB Buffalo – Ross is in that category of hard to project. He is my favorite player that nobody is talking about but put on his game tape and he looks better than some higher ranked players at CB. He is a converted wide receiver so he has less experience.

Because I love to do this, I really hope the Packers find a way to sign P Miles Bergner South Dakota as an undrafted free agent

Bears Picks

Round 1: Pick 3 (3rd overall) – Marshon Lattimore CB Ohio State – I keep going back and forth in my mind here between Lattimore and Adams. I think both are going to be great but CB is the bigger need.

Round 2: Pick 4 (36th overall) – Desmond King DB Iowa – King is a tweener and in a way I still like him at CB. But he may ultimately move to Safety and if the Bears draft him, he can help them the most there and then drop into the nickel on passing downs.

Round 3: Pick 3 (67th overall) – Tanoh Kpassagnon DT Villanova - Okay Bears fans, call me crazy or call this a reach, it does not matter, he is going to go this high because his tools are incredible and he has a desire to get better. Top that off with his take on anybody attitude at the Senior Bowl, and you have a player. He is a gamble and will be a part time player at first, but once he figures himself out this will look like a steal.

Round 4: Pick 4 (111th overall) – Will Holden OT Vanderbilt – Depending on the health of Grasu and if he can come back at center shifting Whitehair back to guard, the Bears could use a tackle. Holden at worst will be a solid back-up but with the players the Bears have at OT right now, he should push to start

Round 4: Pick 10 (117th overall) Kenny Golladay WR Northern Illinois – Golladay is an achiever and might be getting a bit overshadowed by Corey Davis since both play in the MAC. But Golladay has some very interesting traits and the Bears need to get some bigger stronger WRs

Round 5: Pick 3 (147th overall) Eric Saubert TE Drake – Saubert is not a blocker yet and he looks more like a WR and there is an obvious jump from Drake. With that said, he has some very interesting receiving skills which may lead him to becoming a top 20 TE by his second contract. Plus, you have to like a local kid coming to the Bears, not that it matters that much, but to me it is a nice thing.

Round 7: Pick 3 (221st overall) – Alex Torgersen QB Pennsylvania – He may not have the highest ceiling but he has enough tools and smarts to develop into a solid QB that could be a reliable back-up or even emergency starter. Somewhere between Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tim Rattay?

Next up: Chris and Andre will do a mock draft where we alternate picks. Look for that post early next week.
